Stem cell therapy for hair

Regenerative care forweak and resting follicles.

Stem cell therapy uses the body's own repair signals to support hair follicles that have weakened or stopped growing. It is a newer, regenerative option with encouraging early research, offered after an honest assessment of whether it suits you.

Where the treatment works

  1. 1The bulge, a small reservoir of the follicle's own stem cells

01What is stem cell therapy

Working with the scalp's own repair system.

Every hair follicle holds a small reservoir of stem cells. They help the follicle rebuild itself at the start of each new growth cycle. With age, genetics and hormones, this renewal can slow down, and the follicle produces thinner, shorter hair until it rests.

Stem cell therapy for hair is a regenerative treatment. It places a preparation rich in stem-cell-based growth factors and signalling molecules into the scalp, with the aim of supporting follicles that are weak or resting but still alive.

Two ways a preparation can be made

From your own tissue

A tiny sample is taken from your own scalp and processed during the same visit, so nothing foreign is used.

A prepared solution

A medical-grade, laboratory-prepared solution of stem-cell-derived growth factors, with no tissue sample needed.

Your doctor explains exactly which preparation is used in your plan, where it comes from and why, before you decide on anything.

02How it may help

The aim: wake follicles that are resting, not lost.

A follicle that has stopped producing visible hair is not always gone. As long as it is still alive, regenerative signals may help it return to a healthier growth cycle.

What the treatment aims to do
  • Deliver growth factors and signalling molecules close to the follicles
  • Support the follicle's own stem cells in starting a new growth phase
  • Encourage a longer growth phase and thicker, stronger hair
  • Improve the health of the scalp tissue around the follicles
Why patients consider it
  • RegenerativeTargets the follicle's repair process
  • No surgeryNo general anesthesia or stitches
  • Few sessionsFewer visits than many scalp treatments
  • Combines wellWith PRP or a transplant, if advised

  3. 3

03The treatment session

Careful preparation, then a short treatment.

A visit usually takes one to two hours, most of it preparation. The treatment itself is done under local numbing, and you go home the same day.

  1. 1

    Assessment & plan

Your doctor examines your scalp, checks the follicles under magnification and reviews your medical history and blood tests if needed.

  2. 2

    Preparing the treatment

The preparation for your plan is made ready under sterile conditions. If your protocol uses your own tissue, a tiny sample is taken under local numbing first.

  3. 3

    Numbing & comfort

The treatment areas are cleaned and numbed so the injections are as comfortable as possible.

  4. 4

    Scalp injections

Very fine needles place the preparation evenly across thinning areas, at the depth where the follicles are.

  5. 5

    Aftercare

You leave with clear written instructions. Most people return to light daily activity the next day.

04Is stem cell therapy right for you

Best for thinning hair that still has living follicles.

Regenerative treatment needs follicles to work with. It is most useful where hair is thinning or miniaturising, not where the scalp is already smooth and bald.

May suit you if you have

  • Hereditary thinning in men or women, in an early to moderate stage
  • Diffuse thinning where follicles are weak but still present
  • Not responded well enough to PRP or other first-line treatments
  • A wish to support native hair before or after a transplant

Consider another path if

  • Areas are already smooth and bald; a transplant usually suits better
  • Hair loss is from a cause that should be treated first, like thyroid or iron problems
  • You have an active scalp infection or inflammation
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You have active cancer or are receiving chemotherapy

Not sure if you qualify? Send photos of your hairline, top and crown on WhatsApp. We will tell you honestly whether stem cell therapy, PRP, or another option makes the most sense. Ask us ↗

05Results & research

Promising science, with honest expectations.

Stem cell therapy for hair is a newer field. Early clinical studies have reported improvements in hair density and thickness for some patients, but most studies are small and long-term data is still being gathered. We share that openly, so you can decide with clear eyes.

Where the evidence stands today

Results vary widely from person to person. Stem cell therapy is not a replacement for a hair transplant in bald areas, and it is not a cure for genetic hair loss. It is one option in a plan that may also include PRP or medication.

What to expect, and when
  1. First weeksMild redness and tenderness settle. No visible change is expected yet.
  2. Months 2–3Some people notice less shedding as the scalp responds.
  3. Months 3–6Changes in thickness and density, if they happen, become visible gradually.
  4. Month 6+Your doctor reviews progress photos and decides whether a top-up makes sense.

Stem cell therapy may

  • Support weak or resting follicles that are still alive
  • Improve hair thickness and density in some patients
  • Help slow ongoing thinning
  • Support native hair alongside a transplant

Stem cell therapy cannot

  • Grow hair where follicles are gone or scarred
  • Guarantee a specific result for everyone
  • Stop genetic hair loss permanently

After your session

  • Avoid washing your hair for about 24 hours, or as your doctor advises
  • Avoid anti-inflammatory painkillers for a few days unless your doctor says otherwise
  • Skip strenuous exercise, sauna and steam for 2–3 days
  • Protect your scalp from direct sun for about a week
  • Contact us if redness, swelling or pain increases instead of settling

Questions worth asking any clinic

  • Exactly what is injected, and where does it come from?
  • Who prepares it, and under what conditions?
  • What results are realistic for my type of hair loss?
  • What happens if it does not work for me?
We answer all of these at your consultation, in writing if you prefer.
06Safety first

Careful screening, clear answers.

Performed by a qualified doctor in a clinical setting, scalp injections of this kind have a low rate of side effects. Like any medical treatment it is not right for everyone, so we review your medical history and the cause of your hair loss first.

Who should wait or avoid treatment
  • Active scalp conditionsInfection, inflammation or open wounds are treated first.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeedingWe postpone elective treatment until afterwards.
  • Cancer or chemotherapyNot advised with active cancer, or without your oncologist's clearance.
  • Clotting disorders & blood thinnersTell us before treatment. Never stop a medicine without your own doctor's advice.
  • Uncontrolled chronic illnessSuch as uncontrolled diabetes or autoimmune disease, until it is stable.
  • Untreated causes of hair lossThyroid, iron or hormone problems are checked and treated first.

Stem cell therapy & your hair transplant

A transplant moves follicles. Regenerative care looks after the rest.

A hair transplant fills areas that have gone bald, but the native hair around it can keep thinning. For selected patients, your doctor may suggest stem cell therapy as part of a wider plan to support that native hair.

Frequently asked questions

Stem cell therapy, clearly answered.

The questions patients ask us most. Your own plan always follows a personal assessment.

↗Still have a question?
Ask us on WhatsApp
01Does stem cell therapy really regrow hair?+

It can help some patients, but it is not guaranteed. Early studies show improved density and thickness in some people, mainly where follicles are weak but still alive. It cannot grow hair where follicles are gone, and results vary from person to person.

02Where do the cells or growth factors come from?+

Depending on the protocol, the preparation is made either from a tiny sample of your own tissue, processed during the same visit, or from a medical-grade, laboratory-prepared solution of stem-cell-derived growth factors. Your doctor tells you exactly what is used and where it comes from before treatment.

03Is it painful?+

The scalp is numbed before treatment, so most people feel only pressure or light pinpricks. Some tenderness for a day or two afterwards is normal.

04How many sessions will I need?+

It depends on the protocol and your hair loss. Some plans use a single session, others between two and five, spaced weeks or months apart. Your doctor sets the plan after your assessment.

05When will I see results?+

Hair grows slowly, so changes are usually judged at 3 to 6 months, and sometimes later. We review progress with standardised photos so you can compare honestly.

06Is stem cell therapy safe?+

When performed by a qualified doctor in a clinical setting with a clear, quality-controlled preparation, side effects are usually mild and short-lived: redness, tenderness or small bruises. Infection is rare. We screen your medical history first.

07How is it different from PRP?+

PRP uses growth factors from your own blood platelets and is the most studied regenerative option. Stem cell therapy uses stem-cell-based preparations and is newer, with earlier-stage evidence. Your doctor may suggest one, the other, or a combination.

08Can it replace a hair transplant?+

No. Where the scalp is already bald, there are no follicles left to support, and a transplant is usually the right option. Stem cell therapy is aimed at thinning hair, and may be used alongside a transplant to support native hair.

09Who should not have stem cell therapy?+

It is not advised during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active cancer or chemotherapy, with an active scalp infection, or with uncontrolled chronic illness. Tell us if you take blood thinners. Causes like thyroid or iron problems should be treated first.
